Kia introduced the 2022 Carnival MPV to replace the Kia Sedona, which Kia has sold in the United States since the 2002 model year. The Carnival stands proud as the complete multipurpose vehicle package from powerful performance to well-rounded practicality and all the newest and most prominent features you can think of.

2022 Kia Carnival MPV Trim Levels

The 2022 Carnival comes in five main trims: LX, LX Seat Package, EX, SX, and SX Prestige. All trims are powered by a 3.5-liter V-6 engine paired with 290 horsepower, 262 pound-feet of torque, and an eight-speed automatic transmission. We’ve highlighted all trims of the 2022 Kia Carnival, so you know which model is best for you and your family’s driving needs:

LX

The base LX comes standard with an 8-inch touch screen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, hands-free power sliding doors, rear parking sensors, a rear-seat occupant alert, Safe Exit Assist, and active-safety driver assists.

LX Seat Package

The LX Seat Package trim comes upgraded with easy-cleaning vinyl upholstery, heated front seats, a separately movable middle section to the second-row bench, and a power driver’s seat.

EX

The EX trim is a very well-equipped, affordable minivan. It’s equipped with a 12.3-inch infotainment display, 19-inch wheels, front parking sensors, Passenger Voice Control, Passenger Talk intercom system, a rear-passenger camera, UVO link, a power liftgate, adaptive cruise control, satellite radio, and navigation.

SX

The SX trim adds a rear-seat entertainment system, a power passenger’s seat, memory for the driver’s seat and mirror settings, a surround-view monitor, ventilated front seats. Fog lamps and power-folding mirrors complement the SX’s exterior.

SX Prestige

The SX Prestige boasts the “VIP lounge” second-row chairs with ventilation and heating, a premium audio system, a blind-spot-view monitor, a digital instrument cluster, dual sunroofs, and real leather. The driver gets a heated steering wheel, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, an integrated garage door opener, and a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster.

Seating Capacity

When driving a minivan, you understand how crucial it is to have an automobile capable of adapting to the many requirements of a busy family. So, let’s start with seating, as you’ll want to know if you’ll have enough space for every passenger. The 2022 Kia Carnival MPV comes standard with seating for seven passengers, and higher trim levels feature an eight-passenger option. Crunching the numbers, translates to a total of 168.2 cubic feet of total interior passenger volume. Check out the impressive 2022 Kia Carnival cabin dimensions:

  • Shoulder room (1st/2nd/3rd Row): 64.2 / 63.2 / 59.5 inches.
  • Legroom (1st/2nd/3rd Row): 41.1 / 40.5 / 35.6 inches.
  • Hip room (1st/2nd/3rd Row): 59.8 / 66.4 / 50.4 inches.
  • Headroom with panoramic sunroof (1st/2nd/3rd Row): 40.9 / 39.5 / 36.8 inches.

The front seats are cozy and spacious, with a great view of everything around you. However, every trim provides various luxuries for the passenger seats, with the highest trim level featuring lounge-style second-row seats that include leg extension and a headrest for ultimate comfort. Thanks to slide-flex seating, the middle seat in the minivan’s second row folds down into a table for passengers in the third and second row.

If you opt for the SX Prestige, it comes standard with VIP lounge seats. These seats recline with a footrest into the ultimate relaxation position at the touch of a button, which is not a common feature in most minivans. Also, the seats move backward and forward and can also move side to side to create more or less room between them.

The comfort increases with a heated steering wheel, tri-zone automatic climate control, and heated front seats in the higher trims. The driver gets a six-way adjustable seat or a 10-way power-adjustable seat with lumbar support. On the other hand, passengers get some options, too, with a standard four-way adjustable seat or an eight-way power-adjustable one.

Cargo Space and Towing Capacity

When you’ve got a great deal of cargo to carry, the 2022 Carnival can’t be beaten. With easy-to-fold seating behind the driver and passenger seats, you can transform the interior into a spacious cargo compartment capable of hauling even the bulkiest of loads.

The Carnival provides 40.2 cubic feet of cargo room behind the third-row seats, 86.9 cubic feet with the entire third row down, and 145.1 cubic feet with the second and third rows folded down. Even better, the SX Prestige maximum cargo space is 86.9 cubic feet, since you can’t do anything with the second-row lounge seats. However, there’s a decent amount of small-item storage space throughout the cabin, as well as 11 cup holders and a hands-free power liftgate.

Because every 2022 Kia Carnival utilizes the same powertrain, a naturally aspirated 3.5-liter, V-6 engine mated with an eight-speed automatic transmission, all five trim levels have the same towing capacity. The 290 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque created by the 2022 Carnival can tow up to 3,500 pounds. This means you can tow many things, including:

  • Smaller campers such as a teardrop or pop-up.
  • A wide variety of trailers.
  • Weekend getaway toys like a boat.

To help you tow safely on the roads of Corinth and beyond, you can outfit the 2022 Kia Carnival with the available four-camera, 360-degree Surround View Monitor for a bird’s-eye view of your surroundings.
