With warmer weather all around, it’s time to start thinking of ways to get outside and enjoy yourself. Whether you’re heading out with the family or spending quality time with your significant other or taking a relaxing hike through a natural habitat, Denton has some great outdoor activities to keep you entertained and wanting more.
1. Clear Creek Natural Heritage Center
If you love nature, the Clear Creek Natural Heritage Center is where you should stop first. With over 2,900 acres of park to explore, you can easily spend days learning about the hardwood forest, prairies, and aquatic habitats as well as the creatures of the area. Take a leisurely hike with your leashed dog or stop in for a picnic and commune with nature. Master naturalists are also on staff for a free guided tour for you and four of your best nature-loving friends. Just be sure to make reservations in order to arrange for a tour.
The Clear Creek Natural Heritage Center also hosts free workshops once a month. With topics like gardening, composting, rainwater harvesting, and organic gardening, the center is making every effort to teach the community about environmental citizenship, conservation, and restoration.
2. Discover Local Artists
Denton is well-known for its jazz music and art. With countless local artists, the entire downtown area is filled with creativity. Colorful murals are located in the most unexpected places. Take a drive around town and stop for pictures and selfies with the one-of-a-kind artwork in Denton. Or stop into one of many galleries, including the Greater Denton Arts Council and A Creative Art Studio, which showcase local sculptors and painters. Both feature local artists while A Creative Art Studio also has handmade crafts available for purchase.
3. Water Works Park
Water Works Park is guaranteed fun for all ages. Younger kids can enjoy the wave pool and splash pad while taller water lovers can slide down their choice of water slides and even jump off the diving board into the full-size pool under the watchful eyes of trained lifeguards. You can ride solo or in a double float down the lazy river without worrying about rapids and the natural danger of logs and rocks.
If you only like a little water but want to stay close to the action, you can rent a cabana for the day with lounge chairs, table and chair set, and a semi-enclosed space. There is also an indoor area where you can take a break from the sun and pick up some food from the concession stand.
Now that spring is in full bloom and the temperatures are getting warmer, take yourself, your dog, or the whole family outside and enjoy these outdoor activities in and around Denton. You could learn more about your environment, discover a new favorite local artist, or become the best family member to do a cannonball. However, you choose to enjoy your days, spend some time around town and soak up the sunshine and fresh air of Denton.
