Denton County CourthouseThere’s no better way to get to know a place than by taking tours. If you’re looking for a crash course into what makes Denton, Texas, a special place, there are multiple tours — guided and self-guided — you can take to get a unique look into the city. Here are a few you should check out.

Courthouse-on-the-Square

For an in-depth look into the history of Denton County, take the guided Courthouse-on-the-Square tour. This tour gives you insight into the development of the county as a government and a community. If you want to learn more about the courthouse itself, this is a great tour for you. The tour is available by appointment only, and you can schedule yours by email or at 940-349-2854.

Historic Denton Home Tour

If you want to see a great selection of historic homes, the aptly named Historic Denton Home Tour should be at the top of your to-do list. This is an annual tour that lets you explore the architecture and history of some of the oldest homes in Denton. You’ll see homes built from 1885 to 1924 in various architectural styles. The 2019 tour will take place on December 7, from 1-5 p.m. If you can’t make the annual guided tour, you can easily take a self-guided tour of the homes, though you won’t be able to enter them.

Bite Size Food Tour

Discover Denton’s cuisine through the Bite Size Food Tour. This unique walking tour lets you explore Denton’s world of food by visiting some of the local restaurants. You’ll learn about the town itself as you try everything from American-style favorites, desserts, and cocktails. If you’re looking for an interesting and new experience, this food tour has you covered.

Denton County Historical Park

If it’s a self-guided tour of Denton’s history you’re looking for, stop at the Denton County Historical Park. This park is full of exhibits that let you dive into the area’s history, through the Bayless-Selby House Museum, UNT on the Square, and more. You can get an inside look at the lives of people who helped shape Denton and the culture that made it into the town it is today by exploring these locations.

Horse Country of North Texas

By far one of the most popular tours in the area, the behind-the-scenes-tours of the Horse Country of North Texas lets you get up close and personal with the biggest horse ranches in the area. There are six of these tours given out every year to give visitors a chance to learn more about the equine industry and meet new four-hooved friends. If you’re interested in this tour, be sure to visit their site often for the 2020 tour dates, as tickets sell out fast.
