Arts & Autos

When: Sept. 10, 2022, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Where: 110 W. Hickory St., Downtown Denton, Texas
Arts & Autos is a long-running celebration of classic cars and motorcycles in downtown Denton’s heart. 2022’s festival will be the 23rd incarnation of this fall favorite, hosted by the Denton Main Street Association. The heart of the event is an exciting display of classic cars and motorcycles. A team of judges will award cash prizes to the best vehicles in the car, truck, and motorcycle categories. As a bonus, they’ll also recognize vehicles in other, more tongue-in-cheek categories, like “best midlife crisis car.”
If classic cars aren’t your scene, no problem. The Arts & Autos festival provides other activities for everyone in your family. Professional and aspiring artists can register and participate in a chalk mural showcase as a way to stretch their creative muscles. A variety of local vendors can provide you with hours of amusement, whether you’re shopping or looking for a midday snack. Make sure to swing through downtown Denton on Sept. 10 to see what the buzz is about.
Day of the Dead Festival
When: Oct. 28 and Oct. 29
Where: 110 W. Hickory St., Downtown Denton, Texas
Denton’s Day of the Day Festival is a favorite way for community members to celebrate the spirit of fall. Based on the traditional holidays of Halloween and Dia de Los Muertos, this spooky festival makes a great weekend outing for the whole family. The Day of the Dead Festival takes place on Hickory and Industrial Streets in the heart of downtown.
The three mainstays of the event are the Coffin Races, a Halloween-themed cabaret “Cirque du Horror,” and an evening parade that closes the festivities. Visitors to the Day of the Dead Festival can also enjoy artistic displays, music, and great food and drink. Denton Blues Fest
When: Sept. 16, 17, and 18, starting at noon
Where: 321 E. Mckinney St., Denton, Texas
Texas is traditionally one of the most important centers of Blues music in the United States. Denton celebrates this heritage with its annual Blues Fest, presented by the Denton Black Chamber of Commerce. This year, the event will celebrate its 24th anniversary and will be held in Quakertown Park. As you would suspect, the festival’s major attraction is a series of local artists’ fantastic blues and jazz performances. Some of this year’s performers include Vanessa Collier, Grayhounds, Dwayne Dopsie & the Zydeco Hellraisers, Jr. Boy and the Kerri Jones Blues Band, and Captain jack Watson.
Aside from memorable musical performances, the Denton Blues Fest features a range of activities for the whole family. These include karaoke, arts and crafts, shopping opportunities, and a multitude of fantastic local food and drink vendors. Whether you’re a blues fanatic or just someone looking for a good time, the Denton Blues Fest is the event for you.
Community Market
When: Every Saturday from 9 a.m.- 1p.m., April through November
Where: Denton County Historical Park, 317 W. Mulberry St, Denton, Texas
Locally sourced food is making a serious comeback throughout the U.S, and in Denton, we’re proud to take part in this movement towards sustainability and health. The Denton Community Market is a weekly event that provides an opportunity for local food producers and artisans to share their wares with the wider community. The goal of the market is to contribute to the “vitality, livability, and community spirit” of Denton and the surrounding areas.
If you’re interested in meeting some of the farmers, craftspeople, artisans, and food producers who live in your community, swing by the Denton Community Market this Saturday. You’ll learn more about where your food comes from and connect with your neighbors. It’s also a great way to get some tasty ingredients for your kitchen and support the local economy. Aside from fresh produce, you can also enjoy meals from local food trucks and check out works by local artists.
Turkey Roll Bicycle Rally
When: Saturday, Nov. 19 at 9 a.m.
Where: New Denton Bronco High School, 3001 Bronco Way, Denton, Texas
The Turkey Roll Bicycle Rally is an annual fixture of the Denton community that has been running for a whopping 40 years. The event is sponsored by the Denton Breakfast Kiwanis Club, and all the proceeds benefit great local causes, including the Tiny Libraries project that provides free books to elementary school kids in Denton, and seven different youth leadership programs.
The rally takes place in the beautiful month of November, giving participants a gorgeous view of fall colors. There are four different routes to choose from, which range from 29 to 68 miles. This makes it a great event for riders of all experience levels. There will be vendors providing food and drink, and you can register here if you want to benefit a great cause and get some exercise.
