The Cove at the Lakefront

For the ultimate summer experience in the water, visit The Cove at the Lakefront in Little Elm. There are plenty of activities to do alone, with a friend, or with your kids. Catch a wave at The Cove’s Surf Camp, a four-day camp available each week for a fee until August 3. No matter your skill level, beginner or intermediate, you’ll have a certified instructor. They will help you challenge your balance, strength, and perseverance as you ride the waves and try new tricks.

Get some exercise with lap swimming anytime between 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday, or with water aerobics every Tuesday morning from 7 a.m. to 7:45 a.m. Families with small children can take advantage of Toddler Time Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Kids will love splashing around the Spray Ground and The Dock Play Pool. If you want your kids to learn to swim, The Cove offers nine class options with one-on-one or group sessions. Try the Parent and Tot program for babies ages 6 months to 3 years.

Weekend and weekday admission grant you all-day access to this park; prices vary by the attendee’s age. Admission for children ages 2 and under is free. With The Cove’s retractable roof, you can sign up for an annual membership to keep playing in the water all year long. Monthly memberships and family discounts for up to six members are available.

Splash Pad at Doubletree Ranch Park

Do you want to relish the outdoors as you have fun by the water? The Splash Pad at Doubletree Ranch Park  is an ideal location to take in the scenery of rolling hills covered with trees while you splash and play. Designed to look like a natural creek, this local splash pad will leave you in awe as it’s surrounded by natural beauty. The Splash Pad offers plenty of water action areas with 15 water features, 66 spray features, and an awesome waterfall.

  • Hours: Open daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. through Sept. 4. Closed on Thursdays for maintenance.

Water Works Park

Denton is home to Water Works Park, an outdoor water park with four giant slides and an exciting wave pool. Grab a complimentary floating tube and go for a ride on the eighth-of-a-mile-long Lazy River. It’s the perfect place to soak up the sun as you float around the loop. If you have young kids, check out the Children’s Play Pool for age-appropriate toddler slides, water spray features, and a wading pool.

Be sure to make a pit stop at the Tidal Wave Cafe for a delicious, blended fresh fruit smoothie. You’ll love Water Works Park’s ice cream selection if you want to indulge in a sweet treat. Choose from the flash-frozen, surprisingly creamy Dippin’ Dots ice cream or the award-winning Beth Marie’s ice cream served at the park’s gift shop. Cabanas are available for rent, so you can pack a picnic for your local water park visit and enjoy your meal under the shade.

Daily admission discounts are available for residents or guests who attend the park during twilight hours from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday. Water park admission includes access to the Denton Natatorium next door, where you can enjoy swimming at your leisure during open swim hours. Consider purchasing a summer season pass for unlimited access to the park throughout the summer.

  • Hours:  11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 7 p.m. on Sunday from May 27 to Aug. 8. Open weekends only, starting Aug. 12 and ending Sept. 4.

Civic Center Pool

Visit the Civic Center Pool for a wonderful time swimming in an outdoor pool. Bring a friend or your family to this local pool in Denton to marvel at the bright colors all around. There are green, yellow, and purple tube slides, or a long blue slide, that all lead into the pool’s refreshing waters. Grab onto the rope net above the pool and challenge yourself to a fun trek across the colorful floating pads. Get some shade under the green canopy as you wait for the hanging buckets to fill up with water and douse you with cool water.

Plenty of picnic tables are available for you to sit down and have some lunch with your family. There are also several lounge chairs throughout the park where you can kick back and read a book while your kids splash in the pool. Daily admission is $4 for those 18 and older and $3 for children ages 3 to 17. Admission for children 2 and under is free. Looking for a special way to celebrate your kid’s birthday? Party packages are available and include admission, cake, ice cream, and drink tickets for up to 15 guests.
