2020 Kia Soul in Denton, TXThe 2019 Kia Soul is the definition of funky, fresh, and modern. With interesting style, awesome features, and plenty of power to boot, the Soul is the preferred car of both humans — and break-dancing hamsters. This year, the Soul adds a few new amenities, but at its core, it’s the same vehicle that’s taken the compact crossover segment by storm. If you’ve finally decided that the Soul scratches your itch, here’s a glance at the three trims that will take you to new heights on the road in 2019.

The Base Model

With tons of standard specs, the 2019 Kia Soul base model is a nice surprise. Features include 16-inch alloy wheels, black accents, and automatic headlamps. Inside, the Base offers a six-speaker stereo system, a rearview camera, Bluetooth, and premium cloth upholstery.
Under the hood, a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine does the heavy lifting, pouring out 130 horsepower and up to 118 pound-feet of torque. Paired with a six-speed automatic transmission or a six-speed manual transmission, this beauty is fun to drive regardless of your destination. To make matters even better, the base provides 31 mpg on the highway and 26 mpg in the city.

The Plus (+)

Take everything you love about the base model, throw in a number of extras, and you have the 2019 Kia Soul Plus (+). Some of the most alluring upgrades over the base include 17-inch alloy wheels, fog lights, automatic climate control, a drive-selector mode for premium performance, cruise control, and keyless entry.
Beneath the sheet metal, the Soul gets a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that’s good for 161 horsepower and up to 150 pound-feet of torque. This mates with a Sportmatic six-speed automatic transmission. You’ll certainly love the performance of the Soul Plus, but with 30 mpg on the highway and 25 mpg in the city, the efficiency isn’t half-bad either.

The Exclaim (!)

When you hop in the seat of this fully loaded Kia, you might just yell out in excitement. Known as the Exclaim, or just an exclamation point on the company’s literature and the back of the vehicle, this beauty is packed with opulent features both inside and out. Some of the standout specs of the Exclaim include a leather-wrapped steering wheel, power heated side mirrors, keyless start, leather-trimmed seating, 18-inch alloy wheels, and chrome-tipped dual exhaust.
Under the hood, the 2019 Kia Soul Exclaim sports a 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that delivers 201 horsepower and 195 pound-feet of torque. Paired with a dual-clutch seven-speed automatic transmission, it’s smooth and unrelenting on both curves and straightaways. Put the pedal to the metal to propel the Exclaim from zero to 60 in only 6.5 seconds. Surprisingly, you’ll get a rush of blood to the head but not a smash to the wallet, as this trim gets up to 31 mpg on the highway and 26 mpg in the city.
One of the most amazing facets of the Soul is that no matter which trim level you choose, you’ll walk away knowing you purchased a car with amazing reliability and a flashiness that’s found nowhere else in the segment. The only thing you have left to do is car dance all the way back to your driveway.
