These days, drivers are more environmentally conscious than ever before. Reducing the impact their vehicle has on the environment is a top priority. Finding a compact hybrid crossover that meets this need while still looking good and performing well has been a challenge—until now.
Kia has the ultimate solution for drivers who are looking for an environmentally friendly, stylish, spacious new vehicle. It’s called the Niro, and it’s packed full of amazing features. If you’re in the market for a compact hybrid crossover SUV, find out why the 2018 Kia Niro plug-in is awesome.
Power and Performance
While regular electric vehicles are a great option for city drivers, anyone wanting to take a road trip knows they won’t get too far before they need a charge. Thanks to its plug-in hybrid electric engine, the Niro puts the power back in your hands.

Equipped with a 1.6-liter, 4-cylinder engine and a high-density, lithium-ion polymer battery, drivers can switch between the hybrid gas and electric modes with the simple press of a button. Powered by a 6-speed dual-clutch transmission, the Niro plug-in gets 139 horsepower and 195 pound-foot of torque.
On a single charge, the Niro plug-in can travel a distance about 26 miles before switching over, getting a combined city/highway rating of about 105 miles per gallon equivalent. At 48 miles per gallon in the city and 44 miles per gallon on the highway, the Niro not only reduces your carbon footprint, it also saves you money. With a full charge and a full tank of gas, the Niro plug-in gets a range of about 560 miles.
Using a level 2 commercial plug, the Niro is fully charged in less than 3 hours. Though it takes a few hours more, you can charge at home using the same outlets as your household appliances. Drivers who charge their Niro daily can reduce their fuel costs by as much as 50 percent. Use the UVO eco app to schedule charges times for off-peak hours when electricity rates are lower.
Trims
Available in three trim levels, there is a Niro plug-in to suit every style and budget. Power driver’s seat, dual-zone automatic climate control, and a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are some of the features you’ll find in the base level LX trim. Opt for the EX trim to get upgraded upholstery and heated front seats.
At the top of the line, the EX Premium has a 7.0-inch display panel center cluster, leather seats, ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, a Harman/Kardon audio system, a wireless phone charger, and an 8.0-inch center touchscreen with a navigation system.
Safety
In addition to being environmentally aware, the Niro plug-in is also safety conscious. The base level LX comes standard with features like lane-keeping assist and adaptive cruise control. Upgrade to the EX trim for blind-spot detection and rear cross-traffic alert.
If you thought it was impossible to find a crossover hybrid vehicle that looks good and performs great, you’re in luck. Drivers looking to reduce their mark on the environment and still get all great features of a modern and stylish compact hybrid crossover will agree the 2018 Kia Niro plug-in is awesome.
