The holidays are coming up quickly, but unfortunately it isn’t a joyful time for everyone. Many people and even our four-legged friends need our help and support to make it through the season and beyond. Whether it’s feeding the hungry, helping cancer survivors, caring for homeless pets, or taking food to lonely senior citizens, we all can help. If you can’t donate funds, please consider donating your time. We at Huffines Kia Denton believe in giving back to North Texas, and these nonprofits get our vote as among the best four charities in our community.

Dress for Success

Dress for Success is a unique charity that helps under-privileged women enter the workforce by providing interview appropriate clothing, and much more. Its vision is a world where women don’t live in poverty. The administrators desire to create a world where all women are financially independent and treated with dignity and respect. Dress for Success provides each client with professional clothing to help secure employment. However, it’s about much more than simply looking good. Besides providing women with apparel and accessories, the programs help provide the confidence they need to succeed in life.

Meals on Wheels

It’s sad but true. There are many senior citizens who feel lonely and forgotten. Often these seniors don’t have the means or desire to eat correctly, and that’s where Meals on Wheels comes in. Meals on Wheels Association of Texas was founded in 2004 to provide meals for seniors and other adults with disabilities, who are in need of nutritional support. The meals, although important, are just part of the overall outreach. It’s a way to build a relationship with a valued member of our society who may feel forgotten.

The American Red Cross

When Hurricane Harvey hit Texas, many people stood in line for hours to donate blood to the American Red Cross. But you don’t have to wait until there’s a major national disaster to show your support. The American Red Cross has been providing care and assistance to the nation since 1881. It not only provides lifesaving blood, but also disaster relief, first aid classes, and a host of other services.

Dwell with Dignity

Lisa Robison and Kim Turner made it their mission to design soothing homes to people struggling with homelessness and poverty. They provide furniture, art, linens, and kitchen supplies when a family moves to assisted housing supplied by local social services. They strive to ensure they have everything they could possibly need, from dish soap to cutlery. Volunteers and professionals who work with Dwell with Dignity use donated items and raise funds to make a house feel like a home for those in need.

There are so many great charities in Texas that give back to our beloved community that it was hard to pick just a few. Whatever your passion, kids, dogs, food, or gardening, there’s probably a local nonprofit that focuses on it. We encourage you to do your own research and find one that sparks your passion, and then help out in any way that you can. Just a little of your time or money can make a big difference.
