Top Safety Features of the Kia Carnival

TheĀ 2022 Kia Carnival is taking over from the now discontinued Kia Sedona. But you’d be wrong to think that this new minivan is just an update. Kia has produced a new multi-purpose vehicle that seeks to combine the best elements of a minivan and SUV. While the headlines are sure to be grabbed by the Carnival’s spacious cabin capable of seating seven or eight, and practical cargo storage solutions, the Carnival’s great range of safety features is well worth examining closely. Here’s a look at some of the best safety features that you’ll find in the new Kia Carnival.

Driver Assistance Technology

The Carnival is equipped with a long list of standard driver assistance features to make your job behind the wheel easier. The forward collision warning and pedestrian detection systems will warn you if they detect people or other obstacles on the road up ahead. An initial warning will include audio and visual alarms. If you fail to respond in time, the Carnival’s automatic emergency braking system can kick in so that your vehicle is brought to a prompt stop.

The Carnival also features a driver drowsiness monitoring system. By keeping a check on your driving accuracy and other behaviors, the monitor can detect if you’re getting tired and suggest that you take a break for your own safety. Alternatively, it will point out the mistakes that you’ve made so that you can correct them.

Kia has fitted the carnival with rear parking sensors and rear cross traffic alert. This means that if you’re trying to reverse into position, you’ll be protected against inadvertently striking obstacles or colliding with a vehicle that is moving into your path from behind you.

On the highway, the Carnival’s standard lane departure warning and lane keep assist features can keep you on the right track. The lane departure warning tells you if you get too close to the lane dividers, while the lane keep assist can maneuver you back into the center of your lane.

If you want to add further driver assistance features, you can opt for cyclist detection, adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, and a surround-view parking camera. The parking camera system presents you with an aerial view of your Carnival to help you maneuver in and out of small spaces safely.

Family-Friendly Safety

The Carnival’s roomy three rows of seats and spacious cargo storage are great for large families. That’s also true of several excellent safety features included with the Carnival.

The first is the rear-seat monitoring system, which includes a camera to give the driver a view of the rear seats so they can check everyone is sitting safely. It also has an intercom feature so that the driver can speak to rear-seat passengers without having to shout or turn around, which requires taking your eyes off the road.

The middle row of seating is ideally built for young and adult passengers alike. The row can be slid forward so that small children and babies in car seats can be tended to by parents sitting in the front. Alternatively, you can slide the second row far back to open up more legroom for taller passengers.

Another great feature detects any movement in the rear of the vehicle for 24 hours after you’ve exited it. If movement is detected, the vehicle’s alarm will be activated and you’ll get a text message telling you to investigate it. This is a helpful feature that can prevent you from forgetting a child or a pet in your car.

Safe Exit Assistance

The Kia Carnival’s safe exit assistance system monitors the road behind the vehicle and warns back-seat passengers not to get out if a vehicle is approaching. In case you’re worried about kids not paying attention to the warnings, you can also set the system to override attempts by rear-seat passengers to open the rear sliding doors. Lastly, the power sliding rear doors can also be fitted with a child lock system so that you have control over who gets in and out.

Trims and Safety Features

You can choose from four trims when buying a Carnival: LX, EX, SX, and SX Prestige. Each trim offers different standard and optional safety features, as well as different levels of interior luxury.

The LX trim seats seven people and is equipped with all the standard driver assistance features. If you upgrade to the LX Seat package, which adds an eighth seat, you also gain access to blind spot monitoring.

If you choose to step up to the Carnival EX, you get additional features like adaptive cruise control, front parking sensors, and cyclist detection. The EX trim also has Kia’s Smart Tailgate feature. This allows you to lock the tailgate simply by standing behind the vehicle. This is a great safety feature if you have your hands full with bags, since you don’t have to worry about locating a sensor with your hands full.

If you like the idea of a surround-view parking camera, it comes standard in the SX trim. It also features the rear-seat entertainment system, which may help encourage any young passengers to stay seated safely during long or short drives.

The top-of-the-line SX Prestige adds a digital gauge cluster, which will help you monitor your vehicle’s performance and quickly detect any potential safety issues.
